Raise your hands if you wash your face in the shower and feel the hot steamy water run down your face? Do you have your hand up? I do. This habit should stop now. Although it's one of the most relaxing habits to end your day, the truth is the steamy hot water is also killing every water molecule in and on your skin. You're left with dry, irritated and possibly red and flakey skin that is difficult to moisturize. So, in case you are wondering why your skin can't absorb enough moisture or your skin is consistently dry, start a new habit - cleanse your skin before or after a relaxing shower and leave that gorgeous skin out of the hot water.
It is easy to forget that our skin is the largest organ on our body and, therefore, so easily to neglect. Just as we use sunblock to protect from the harmful sunrays, the skin also yearns for hydration. Without it, the dehydration can cause premature signs of aging and make it more difficult to absorb our favorite skin care treatments. According to the U.S. Census and Simmons National Consumer Survey, 1.35 million Americans spend nearly $500 on cosmetics in a span of three months (2017). That is over $150 of precious product swirling down the drain each month.
So next time you step into the shower, be sure to preserve and protect that fabulous skin from the hot, steamy shower. Instead, use a deep hydrating mask or moisturizing cream (instead of lotion) to love on your skin overnight. Committing to this new habit will set you on your way to healthier and more glowing skin.
